Procedure
Sankalpam, then water offered with sesame when the form is Thila Tharpanam, naming ancestors as the priest leads. It is shorter than a homam. Stay until you are told the rite is complete.
Practical points
The shore is windy and crowded on Amavasya. Hold footwear and phones securely. A fresh set of clothes is useful if you stand near the water.
What not to mix up
Tharpanam is not Thila Homam. You can book both. Saying only pooja leaves the priest guessing.
